I took the girls to the doc, and when we left (armed with about ten different prescriptions) we discovered what was LEFT of my car.
Some dick had hit it, knocked the front end off, and split.
No witnesses, but there were some people who were so incredibly helpful to me, and I am in their debt. While I stood there crying and shaking, one dude took pix, and sent them to Matt’s phone. Someone else called the cops. Another person checked to see if there was surveillance in the parking lot–no.
So, we’re fucked. I have great insurance, but we still have a $500 deductible and we are broke because Y’ALL made me go buy Matt a shitload of new clothes last week. Thanks, guys.
One of the good samaritans told me he would take all four of us anywhere we needed to go, and I was like, “But I have to get prescriptions and stuff, and you don’t need to be carting us around on errands.”
They decided that after pix were taken, they would just pull the bumper/grill off so I could drive it home. Man, they were nice.
I hugged them all when we left, and just bawled because their kindness calmed me down and kept me from being hysterical. Our other car is currently parked at the Louisville airport, awaiting Matt’s return.
So, now we deal with State Farm, and will hopefully be in a rental by tomorrow.
Yes, it sucks to be us, but at least no one was hurt.
I want it on record that anyone who hits and runs is a total dick, and bad karma should befall them.

sorry to read this. I have to take my teenager to the doc today at 3:30, so I hope this doesn’t happen to me as well….and yes, I suspect she has strep. hopefully there are tapes of who did it. |

Nope. No tapes. This is the second time in less than a week when I desperately wanted surveillance, and got nothin. |

did the police show and write a report? You know they can take paint samples and sometimes trace the type of car it was from the paint. And I’m glad so many people offered their help to you…… guess there’s hope for the world after all! {hugs} |

I’m so sorry, honey, I’m glad at least you’re getting to drive a rental car for the time it will take to get your car fixed. I am so glad all of those good people were there for you too…your week has only got to get better from now on. *huge hugs* I hear of at least one hit and run everyday, lot of shitty people out there we have to share the world’s oxygen with. |

Westy, they’ll take paint samples when a car was used in a major crime….bank robbery, murder, running over 10 nuns in a crosswalk, things like that. But not in a hit-and-run where there were no witnesses and no injuries. This sucks Susan. Hopefully karma will bite this guy in the ass. Or, more accurately, the teenage girl that panicked and fled. |

Oh, on the bright side, I have decided I have to learn how to use my phone and take pictures. I have no clue how to do it, and just always rely on Matt, or Autumn, or hell, our DOG to do it for me. Had a guy there not been willing to take several photos and send them to Matt’s email, we would really be fucked. |

You need a camera phone to take photos of douchebags around you. But learning copying and pasting is like using birth control after getting knocked up. |

I’m just amazed that you have a dog that can take picture on a phone and send them via email! Put the dog on TV and make a fortune, forget finding the 500 bucks, you will be able to buy a new car! |

EF I’m so sorry…that sucks. I have dealt with State Farm on stuff like this many times. The key is to be STUBBORN. Do not, do not, do NOT accept the first claim settlement they offer you!!! I have played around with them for months, and in the end, you’ll win. When my car was stolen and totaled, I argued with those fuckers at SF for weeks and weeks….finally got a $7,000 check from them. I had only paid $4,000 for the car. Hahaha!!! I’ve been with State Farm through two stolen cars, and two crashed cars. Trust me, if you tough it out you will get a lot more out of them than if you accept their first offer. Sorry you had it happen at all… |

Check out the area around all the exits and see if any of the stores have cameras facing the parking lot exits. Do you have those ttraffic cameras at intersections or a reporter who does human interest stories. |

yeah, maybe neighboring stores have cameras in the direction of where your vehicle was parked. she has bronchitis and super bad cold and strained her vocal cords from too much concert band practice. on meds and sleeping now….but for how long, who knows. she’s 18 and I still baby her. |

Check your liability part and see if you have uninsured motorist protection. There should be no deductible if you do. |

Wes, I didn’t think about that. I’ll ask today. State Farm is sending a tow truck this morning and hooking me up with a rental, but I’ll check on the uninsured motorist thing. |

you may not have to pay a deductible on a hit and run. I’m not sure, but it might fall under your uninsured motorist clause if you have one. |
