Yo, Ben the Birthday Boy

**raises eighth cup of coffee**
Here’s to hoping you have a fantastic, drama-free year. I hope all your tenants are OCDish about cleanliness, and that their dogs are not only housebroken, but toilet trained. I hope they are all vegans so they won’t eat your food, and teetotalers so they won’t drink your beer.
Happy Birthday, my friend.

This week has sucked, and is still sucking. I don’t really see an end to the suckage that is going on, so I probably won’t be around much because I don’t have anything to say. As always, I expect all of you to fuck with Steve. Do not disappoint me.

I am woefully behind on y’alls journals (amazing how that happens after just a day or two) so I am not going to read anything from yesterday. “Start fresh!” That’s my motto. Please, dear ones, make it worth my while and give me something to look forward to. I need some laughs.

Speaking of laughs, have y’all read anything by David Sedaris?? God, that dude is funny. He told a story about having his IQ tested, and said that when he got his results he was depressed to see that if you put his number in dollars, you could buy about three buckets of fried chicken. That one sentence alone has given me the chuckle that I have needed the past few days. So, thanks David! Now, he has done his part, so y’all get on it.

I read half of ‘when engulfed in flames’, didn’t really like it. Then someone told me I started his books wrong. I was told to start with ‘Me talk pretty one day’ or ‘Naked’.
I suggest Augusten Burroughs for another memoir writer and Christopher Moore for fiction.

Troy–Augusten wrote “Running With Scissors,”, right? I loved that book until the last quarter–then it got too creepy. Christopher Moore? Did he do “Jitterbug Perfume”? I need to read that one again. I loved it.

Augusten did do ‘Running with scissors’. My favorite of his is ‘Sellevision’, which is his only fiction book.
Christopher Moore is my absolute favorite author, he has done- Lamb: the gospel according to Biff, Christs childhood pal, The Stupidest angel: a heartwarming tale of Christmas terror, Bloodsucking fiends: a love story, You suck: a love story (part wo to bloodsucking fiends), A dirty job, The lustlizard of meloncholy cove, The island of the sequined love nun, Fluke or why the winged whale sings, Fool, and Coyote Blue.

What kind of books do you normally like to read?
I like humorous fiction, funny memoirs, and kids fantasy books (ages 8- and up).

Hmmm–I must be thinking of someone totally different. I can almost see the NAME on a cover, but can’t picture the title.
What I like depends on my mood. I am re-re-reading Sedaris right now, but WAS on a Nelson DeMille kick for a while. He does sort of mystery thrillers. His characters are awesome.
I also read ONE Jodie Picoult book. Do not ever read her. Her endings SUCK.
You h ave been warned.

I don’t think I could bring myself to read Picoult… look slike chick lit.
DeMille is a big seller, the lates one to paperback (The Gatehouse) is kind of a big seller at work.
If your girls like to read, I suggest ‘City of Ember’, the main character is a 12yr old girl.
Or ‘The sisters Grimm’ the main characters are 7 and 12.

How old are your girls now?

Autumn is 11 and Laurel is 7. I sent you a pm but you haven’t responded–are you not seeing the notices?
I will write down “City of Ember” for Autumn–she loves to read.
Last DeMille I read was The Lion’s Game and it was awesome.
“The Sisters Grimm” are on my list, too, because Laurel also loves to read. Thanks for the heads up!
